These beautiful lithographs come from the work entitled Naturgeschichte und Abildungen der Reptilien by Heinrich Rudolf Schinz. As a respected physician in Zurich, Schinz became a natural history professor at the University of Zurich. He produced a series of illustrated books featuring humans, birds, mammals, amphibians, and fish between 1824 and 1852 of which this work is a part. It was published in Leipzig, Germany 1836 and lithographed by Karl Brodtmann, one of the most prominent lithographers of the time. They feature recent professional hand-colouring and are printed on high quality woven paper that measures ~9 1/2″ by 13 3/4″.
